This is actually a type of caterpillar. After asking various people what it might be, we were finally told that it is called a "gusano pollo". We found out it can be very dangerous and even fatal for small children and the elderly. Touching it causes a reaction that requires medical care. We found it very interesting, but we thank God that no one touched it by accident!!
